Crumbly Apple Pie Recipe
Description: This is a traditional apple pie recipe with a twist.

1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup chilled, solid vegetable shortening
1/4 cup ice water
7 medium cooking apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cups firmly packed dark brown sugar
3/4 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/3 cup chilled butter or margarine, cut into small pieces
How to Make Cinnamon Apple Fritters:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Prepare crust. In a medium bowl, mix together flour and salt.
Cut shortening into flour mixture until coarse and crumbly.
Add water, a little at a time, tossing with a fork until dough forms.
Shape into a disk, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
Use a floured rolling pin on a floured surface, to roll out dough into a

Trim dough, keeping a 1/2" overhang.

Spoon filling into crust.
Prepare Topping. In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar, flour and nutmeg.
Cut butter or margarine into mixture until coarse and crumbly.
Sprinkle topping over apples.
Bake in oven for approximately 35 minutes, until topping is lightly brown
and apples mixture is bubbly.
Recipe Tip: If pie topping is browning too quickly, cover lightly
with aluminum foil.
