  • According to legend, in the 19th century English children put the fruit on strong grass stems and sold them as "straws of berries".

  • Native Americans called them "heart seed berries", as the fruit looked like a heart.

  • Fresh strawberries were once used as toothpaste.

  • There are more than 40 species of strawberries. Those found in the wild, are generally small.
