White sauce is the starting point for making many sauces. In turn, it is used in many recipes. While there are many variations, this white sauce recipe is a basic one.
This recipe is very easy to make.

2 Tablespoons butter or margarine
1 cup milk
2 tablespoons flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
First, in a saucepan, melt 2 tablespoons of butter or margarine over low heat.
Next, slowly blend in 2 tablespoons of flour.
Add 1/4 teaspoon of salt.
Then, cook over low heat, stirring, for 4 to 5 minutes.
Slowly add 1 cup of milk, stirring constantly.
Continue cooking slowly until smooth, and the sauce has thickened.
You can make your white sauce thicker or thinner, by adding more or less milk.
Variations: You can add a variety of herbs and spices to this basic white sauce recipe, including celery salt, onion salt, parsley, lemon juice, basil, and more.
