Grape Pie Recipe Description

When the fall harvest arrives, grape pies are one of the first desserts people make. Learn how to make grape pie. Your family and friends will absolutely love it! This old-fashioned recipe is several decades old. It is a very sweet pie.

Grape Pie Recipe Ingredients

 Ingredients for the crust:

  • 3/4 cups flour
  • 1/3 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 2 Tablespoons water

Ingredients for the filling:

  • 4 cups blue grapes
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons flour
  • Dash of ground cloves

Topping Ingredients:

  • Meringue
  • Brown Sugar

Directions How to Make Grape Pie Recipe

  1. Separate the grape skin from the pulp.
  2. Next, place pulp in a double boiler and steam for 20 minutes.
  3. Then, press the pup through a sieve to remove the seeds.
  4. Separate the egg whites and yolks.
  5. Add unbeaten yolk and sifted dry ingredients to the pulp. Mix together well.
  6. Preheat oven to 350° F.
  7. Combine all of the crust ingredients together. 
  8. Then, roll the crust out into a round shape. 
  9. Pour the grape pulp mixture into the pie shell.
  10. Bake in the oven for 45 minutes.
  11. Remove the pie from the oven and allow to cool.
  12. Finally, top the grape pie with meringue and brown sugar.

Recipe Suggestion: If you want a more traditional grape pie with a crust topping, prepare a second crust for the top. Then, place it on the pie before baking and crimp the edges all around the rim.  Lightly sprinkle a little sugar on top. Finally, cut three or four slits in the top crust to allow steam to vent.

In a spray bottle, combine one part of hydrogen peroxide with two parts of water. Then, spray the grout. Wait one hour. Then, wipe it off.
