Creamed Spinach Recipe Description

This creamed spinach recipe uses a sauce with nutmeg, for a pleasing taste. The recipe also calls for a small amount of hot pepper, just one or two light shakes, to add a little heat. You can omit the hot pepper if desired. Popeye gives this recipe two thumbs up.

Creamed Spinach Recipe Ingredients

1 pound fresh picked spinach, washed

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 Tablespoon butter or margarine

2 teaspoons flour

one or two shakes of ground hot pepper (omit if you don’t like foods hot)

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

3/4 cups milk

Directions on How to Make Creamed Spinach

  1. Coarsely cut spinach, or break it by hand

  2. Steam until tender.

  3. Melt butter in a saucepan.

  4. Stir in salt, pepper, and nutmeg.

  5. Stir in flour.

  6. Heat until mixture bubbles.

  7. Gradually add milk, stirring constantly.

  8. Bring to a boil. Continue to boil for 1 to 2 minutes.

  9. Remove from heat.

  10. Blend in spinach.

  11. Serve hot.
