Sweet and Sour Cabbage Recipe

Description: This cabbage recipe is definitely a little different. It includes apples! Don't shy away from trying it, as we think you will like it. While this recipe calls for red cabbage, you can substitute with white cabbage. Better still, make a blend of both!

Yield: 6 to 8 servings


  • 2 1/2 pounds red cabbage

  • 2 Tablespoons butter

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper

  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves

  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice

  • 1/2 cup sugar

  • 3 tart apples

  • 1/2 cup vinegar


  1. Thinly slice cabbage and place in a pot.

  2. Add butter, salt, pepper, spices and sugar.

  3. Add water to cover content of pot.

  4. Peal, core and slice apples, and add to the pot.

  5. Simmer for one hour, stirring occasionally.

  6. Add vinegar, and simmer 1 more hour.

  7. Serve hot.
