Onion Rings in Beer Batter Recipe

Description: Crispy and tasty beer batter recipe to fry up some of your bountiful crop of onions, into golden brown fried onion rings.

Onion Ring Ingredients:

  • 2 large, sweet onions

  • 1 cup flour

  • 1 cup beer

  • 2 tablespoons sugar

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper

  • dash or two of paprika, optional to add color

  • 3-4 cups shortening or vegetable oil.

Preparation  Directions:

  • Peel onions.

  • Slice into 1/4 inch or large slices. Separate the rings and set aside on a plate.

  • In a bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, salt and pepper.

  • Add a dash or two of paprika. This will darken the batter, so the onion rings will look more golden.

  • Gradually mix the beer into the mixture.

  • Refrigerate the batter for 3-4 hours.

  • Heat shortening or vegetable oil to 375 F.

  • Dip the onion rings into the batter. Allow excess batter to drip off.

  • Place several onion rigs into the hot oil.

  • Cook until golden brown, about 3-5 minutes.
