Traditional Hummus Recipe

Description: Hummus is a made from chickpeas, also called garbanzo beans. Hummus is popular around the world. This is a traditional recipe. Don't hesitate to experiment by adding a variety of herbs, spices and vegetables to this basic recipe


  • one 16 ounce can of chickpeas (garbanzo beans)

  • 1 clove garlic, peeled

  • 1/4 cup olive oil

  • 2 Tablespoons fresh squeezed lemon juice

  • 2 Tablespoons sesame paste (Tahini)

  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin (optional)

  • salt and pepper to taste

  • paprika

  • chopped chives


Preparation  Directions:

  • Open the can of chickpeas, drain and reserve the liquid.

  • Rinse the chickpeas and place them in a blender or food processor.

  • Add garlic, olive oil, lemon juice, sesame paste, cumin, salt and pepper.

  • Puree in the blender or food processor until smooth.

  • Add a little of the reserved chickpea juice, if it is too thick.

  • Ladle hummus into a serving bowl.

  • Sprinkle paprika on top.

  • Sprinkle chives on top.

  • Refrigerate any leftover.
