I do hereby declare the second Thursday of March to be Popcorn Lover’s Day…..Kewl!!! With this declaration, a very important day was created for many reasons. But, two of them really “pop” into our minds. reasons. First, it gives recognition to a very important and healthy snack food. Second, this day gives recognition to all those who love popcorn.
Every year on this day, people everywhere should pop a batch of popcorn. Have it any way you want: plain, buttered salted, cheese, or any other flavorings. We encourage you to be adventuresome and try all of the different flavorings today.
You can microwave it, pop it in a hot air popper, or pop it in oil. For a smoky flavor, pop it in a wire basket in your wood fireplace.
Popcorn is good for you until you slather on butter and salt. It is a novel plant to grow in your garden, too. And, it is also a great fundraiser. Groups like the Boy Scouts of America and Cub Scouts, sell popcorn each ear to support their organization.
On this day, your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to spread the joy of eating popcorn to others.
This day was created on January 6, 2012, by Bob Matthews of Rochester, NY. It is Bob’s favorite snack. He and his wife have it on most Thursdays, all year long. Bob is also an avid gardener and has grown it in his garden and dried it for popping.
