Grandma's Old Fashioned Chili Sauce Recipe
This recipe was handed down from Great Grandma,and who knows how many
generations before that.
This recipe is sized for canning the finished Chili Sauce. You can cut it
down, if desired, to make a smaller quantity.

Yield: 5 quarts
Chili Sauce Ingredients:

1 peck tomatoes, peeled and diced

5 big green peppers, cleaned and diced

2 cups onions, coarsely chopped
-
1 bunch celery, chopped
-
2 cups brown sugar
-
12 ounces cider vinegar
-
4 Tablespoons salt
-
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
-
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
-
1/4 teaspoon allspice
-
1 teaspoon nutmeg
-
1 handful pickling spices, tied in a cheesecloth bag.
Preparation Directions:

Add all ingredients, except the pickling spices into a large stock pot.

Simmer for 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally.

Add the bag with pickling spices.

Continue to simmer for another 1 1/2 hour until the sauce begins to thicken.

Remove from heat and can the chili sauce for later use.
