Apple Butter Recipe

Description:  Making your own apple butter is a fun fall project. This recipe is sure to be a new one  for your collection.

Yield: 3 quarts


  • 4 quarts apples
  • 2 quarts water
  • 1 1/2 quarts cider
  • 1 1/2 lbs sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon allspice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves

Preparation Directions:
  1. Wash apples and cut into small pieces.
  2. In a large pan, cover apples with water, and boil until tender.
  3. Pass through a sieve or food processor, to remove skin and seeds.
  4. Bring cider to a boil.
  5. Add apple pulp and sugar.
  6. Cook until thickened, stirring very frequently to avoid burning the bottom.
  7. Add spices and cook for 20 minutes.
  8. Fill 3 sterilized quart jars and seal.
