Cooked Beets Recipe

Description:  A lot of people enjoy beets. But, not too many gardeners grow them. So, it is not surprising if you are not familiar with how to cook fresh beets.

Once you've cooked your beets, you can use them in your favorite recipes.

Yield: 4 cups


Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds fresh beets

  • 1-2 cups water

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (omit salt, if you are on a low sodium diet)


Preparation Directions:

  1. Pour water into a pan.

  2. Add salt.

  3. Bring water to a boil.

  4. While water is heating, wash and peel beets.

  5. Slice or dice beets, as desired.

  6. Put beets into boiling water.

  7. Cover pan and reduce heat to a steady, slow boil. 

  8. Cook until tender, usually about 25-45 minutes.

  9. Drain of water.

  10. Beets are ready to use in your favorite beet recipes.
