How to Make Gramma's Homemade Apple Pie Recipe

Description:  There's lots of apple pie recipes. The best are homemade. And, the very best, is Grandma's Homemade Apple Pie. The crust of this pie will come out very flaky.

Serves: 6

Preparation Directions:

Ingredients for Apple Pie Crust:

  • 2 cups Flour

  • 1/2 cup Vegetable oil

  • 1/4 cup Milk (Gramma used whole milk, but 2% works fine)

  • 4-5 dashes of Salt

Ingredients for Apple Pie Filling:

  • 6 large baking Apples, Macintosh or your favorite baking apple.
  • 1/2 cup light brown Sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated Sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon Allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon Nutmeg
  • 2-3 pats Butter or Margarine

How to Make Apple Pie Crust:

  1. In a large bowl, mix together all ingredients for the crust.
  2. Separate the dough into two balls.
  3.  Put each ball between two sheets of wax paper.
  4. With a rolling pin, roll out balls, making them large enough to fill the pie plate.
  5. Line the bottom of an 8 or 9 inch pie plate with one of the balls, forming it into the plate and over the lip.
  6. Set pie plate and the crust top aside, and prepare the pie filling.

How to Make Apple Pie Filling:

  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
  2. Peel and and core the apples.
  3. Cut applies into chunky slices, and put into a large bowl.
  4. Add sugar, and spices.
  5. Mix together.
  6. Put mixture into the pie plate, and dot with a few pats of butter and a few teaspoons of flour.
  7. Put the top crust on the pie and crimp edge.
  8. Slit the pie 4-6 times.
  9. Sprinkle a little cinnamon and granulated sugar on top.
  10. Place pie on a cookie sheet to catch any runover, and put in pre-heated oven.
  11. Bake at 425 degrees for 10 minutes. Then, reduce heat to 350 degrees, and bake for 50 minutes, or until top and bottom crust is brown.
  12. Remove from oven and cool on wire rack.
